Transmission simple or not?
Looking at a used 1989 300e.
The current owner says the transmission was rebuilt 30K miles ago. Apparently, transmission warranty expired at 24K Intermittently Slips, and have to shift into 2nd gear to engage it. Ideas, or am I looking at putting 2K into having it fixed? Guess is it wasn't happening while it was under warranty. Thanks |
Maybe it is just low on ATF? Modulator could be turned down too far also.
Unless current owner can provide a receipt, doubt that it was rebuilt. Anyone in their right mind would retain the receipt. I build my own, I think they are simple. I would not put a $2000 trans into a 300E, they have nearly no value on the street. |
Check the vacuum level at the modulator, then adjust the modulator per factory procedure. Top off the fluid. If that doesn't do it, the odds are the rebuild was botched.

Mr. Trans,or Aamacco forget it. Needs to be sun valley rebuilders
|
As already mentioned - simple things like fluid level - fluid type - adjustment can solve problems
(Depends of course on the quality of the rebuild) |
