Things I should do while m104 is out of car?

I'm in the process of installing a m104. 98 (92k miles) in my 190e. Im working on replacing all the gaskets and plan on doing the timing change guides also. I was wondering if anyone else has any recommendations before I bolt the motor in.

Thank you!

A lil pricey but the crank and knock sensors... if they’re original

Front pump seal on trans only if it is leaking. Idler arm bushings if worn.
Stronger front springs if planning on doing them. Blower motor if it has been giving problems. Motor mounts good?

Sounds like a great transition/upgrade, should be a lively 190E!!!

Good luck!!!

Crank sensor, yes because it is a high failure item and will stop the car. Keep the old one in the car just in case there is an early failure.

Knock sensors, no because in general they don't fail often and if they do, they won't stop the car and are easy to change.

Front and rear crank seal, yes.

What are you using for a fuel system , ECM?.

On a 92K engine timing chain guides wouldn't even be on my radar, but resealing the lower timing cover with the engine out would be a good idea. Not much room in a 201 to do the job later on.

Thank you for the input guys! I'm going to use megasquirt 2, but might just upgrade to 3 before I finish. I'm brother came up with a great camshaft trigger wheel set up for his m103 that should work on my m104.98 with some adjustments(sequential injection). I plan on using some later model m104 knock sensors that are little cheaper compared to these $300 ones.

On another note, I got a great deal on a 1999 c230 "sport" to get my 722.6 transmission and parts from! Only $400! Turns out it had a stuck injector and a bad coil. Cool thing is it has 15in AMG rims on it. I had no idea they came that small. Anyone know if W202 suspension is compatible with the w201? Based on my reading the the "sport" came with bigger sway bars and beafy springs.

Be aware that at least on the 97 C / E / SL M104 with Bosch ME2.0 / 2.1 , if a miss fire is detected, the computer will shut off that cylinders injector to prevent cat melt down.

The 201 strut front suspension uses some parts related to the W124 / R129. Big brakes can be installed with some mix / match. The rear suspension / hubs are very similar and should interchange.

The 202 front suspension is double A arm and more related to the W210. The W210 uses the same upper A arms as the sport version W202. I'm still trying to find out the difference between Sport / non sport W202 upper arms, about the only difference could be bushing stiffness or maybe a taller ball joint stem for more camber gain on compression.

If you look on rock for parts, you can click on the part number and get a " what it fits " . Use this only as a guide not 100 % verification.

Also, given you are going down the suspension route, have a look at my posts in this thread but ignore the original poster as he is unwilling to take my advice.
