Question Cleaning a 560 SL idle control valve

Hi My 1986 560 is running rough and slightly high idle, bit of hesitation on acceleration. 157K mileage.

Just did the plugs, wiring, distributor cap and rotor. I have read many posts today about IDLE Mine is about 900RPM.

The valve motor itself passes the voltage 4.65 and ohm 4ohm test.

Cleaning seems to be a possibility. Replacement also. Would like to try and clean it. How is that done?
Thanks Jack

I just fill it up with throttle body cleaner and shake it around a bit. I guess you could apply voltage to move the internal parts around a bit while the cleaner was in there, but I've never done it.
Had an erratic idle a few times, and the TB spray always worked.

I guess any volatile liquid would work. I used carburator cleaner. I unplugged and removed the icv, sprayed into the open output end, shook, sprayed some more until it vented clean. Let it drain then reinstalled and it was fixed.

I don't think I would take the chance of applying voltage to it while it was full of fluid.

Rocky, you're right. I knew there was a reason I never tried that, but Old Timer's Disease made me forget why.
