Beg pardon, but there isn't a belt on the market, OE of After-market, that is designed to go more that many miles; no wonder you had a failure.

Do belt manufacturers specify the life their belts are designed for?

This article says::

Quote:
Mercedes-Benz, for example, says to inspect the belt every two years or 20,000 miles, while Volkswagen says to check it every 40,000 miles. On most Ford vehicles, the manufacturer says to start inspecting it after 100,000 miles and then every 10,000 miles. On many GM vehicles, the first recommended inspection is at 150,000 miles or 10 years.
Maybe the US made belts last longer (by the way, my Conti belt was made in Spain)

My E320 was usually dealer serviced back then - They are supposed to check the "polybelt" at every B service. Maybe inspection isn't sufficient. A belt may "look" OK, but still break.

To repeat what I said in previous post:
Quote:
I would advise anyone with W210 or any other car to change the serpentine belt early. Don't wait for it to break!
