Tech Help

I have a 87' 300E, I've been experiencing some vibrations during park/neutral. this vibration is very noticeable on the seat. does anyone know what i can do to fix this.

Also, how do i change air filter and spark plugs?

thanks

Hi
Hard to tell without being in the car. The shuddering may possibly be a misfire if it's only noticeable in Park or Neutral - do you also get slight jolting under acceleration?

Changing the plugs is easy.. if you know what the basic parts of an engine are, there's nothing different about these engines. You have 6 spark plugs, lined along the engine, with wires going into the top of them. The air filter is inside the big black thing.
These are marked AF and SP on my 214,000 miles 300TE's picture.
By the way use basic copper plugs, not Platinum ones - these can cause all sorts of problems in these engines (do a search).

But if you *really* need this help, I would get someone else to show you how to do it first.

How about the Motor Mounts?

I'd take a peak at the condition of the mounts and rear tranny support to see what's left of 'em or if they are collapsed.

Easy to see and it wont cost you anything.

There is no way that someone, asking how to remove a spark plug, would be able to evaluate the motor mounts on a 300E.

Besides the clips, there are 4 nuts holding the lid of the air cleaner box in place.

You will probably need a tool to remove the spark plug boots as they are frequently miserable to get off without damaging them. There is a MBZ version that works like a charm but costs about $35 and well worth it! A little silicone lube on the new plugs will make boot removal much easier.

And then a sort-of.. spark plug remover for the plugs. You need a mechanic. It will take 5 minutes and cost you a bean.

no time for mechanic.....i should really get rid of this car.
i feel it saying to me, "im dying"

it has 193,000km
some tranny problems.....bad fuel efficientcy
I'm only 19, and going to univ, this car is not very economical.
I think i have to turn to those Japanese cars, maybe a Honda.
