Engine Light
Hi all,
My '94 E420 engine light stays on after started it, does it mean bad?? or the light just mulfunction?? The car seems running normal so far can't detect anything wrong. Are there any ways to check or to reset? 'cause I dont want to bring it to service and being charged for an arm and a leg if nothing wrong. It happened once before, but it goes off after a few days. Your inputs are greatly appreciated Rog, |

I've read here on this site that there are something like over 20 different systems that can cause a check engine light to come on.
The check engine light is related to smog related equipment. It can be practically anything, including your transmission. Do a search under member Arthur Dalton, and he's explained how to retrieve codes via the LED display in your engine compartment. Once you have the code, you'll need to know what the code number actually suggests is wrong. In any event, check engine light codes seem to be common on these OBD-I cars, and the car will run absolutely fine. You'll have to clear the code eventually anyway when you need to get your car smogged.

Thanks for the info Paul, I've already obtain all the codes like you told me, and I'll proceed the steps, are these codes also apply to E420 as well?

I believe codes are retrieved the same way, but I'm not 100% sure.
If you see the LED display, give it a shot.
