1994 E320 home-brew blower fuse scare

Main climate control blower is out on this car. My daughter sent the pic below of the blower fuse on the front shock mount. Yikes. The second picture is what I was hoping to find.

Looks like someone replaced the strip fuse with a wire and it also looks like one side was not tight, leading to severe overheating. Thing is, the housing doesn't look original and doesn't accept the usual strip fuse because of the step in the middle. Was there another version of the fuse link used on these cars? If not, this is a home-brew repair that I'd like to correct, but where to find the parts for the housing? I'm pretty far from a dismantler to try to find something used, locally.

Also, I'm also concerned that with that amount of overheating, the blower motor may be in pretty bad shape. In fact, which came first is an open question; failing blower leads to high current, leads to burning, or the other way around.

Any advice appreciated.
