Gas leak in E320

Hello all. This is my first post and, yes, I did a search first and could not find the answer.

The problem is a gas odor on an E320. It is not coming from the fuel pump area as I removed the cover and inspected all the hoses and fittings. When I discussed this with an MB service rep he suggested that it might be due to gas in the charcoal cannister from overfilling the gas tank. I went to inspect it but believe it is behind the rear fenderwell liner which doesn't look easy to remove.

Any suggestions as to whether this might be the problem and how does one remove the fenderliner

TIA
