300E Gas Guage Precursor to Battery Death (again)
A while back there was a discussion about W124 gas guages jumping around under 1/2 a tank. I observed then that this occurred as my alternator brushes were failing.
It happened again - the guage started jumping around last week and sure enough, the battery gave it up yesterday. Another clue was the intermittent ABS light. If you see this happening, strongly suggest you check out your battery and alternator!

This is really a weird phenomenon...
.. because mine was dancing too, until I started using Shell gasoline (used Chevron before) and the dancing immediately halted after the switch.
Anyone out there that uses Shell premium fuel exclusively that experiences the dancing fuel gauge? ~Paul ___________________ '91 300E, 213K miles |
