I need information on the proper vacuum line connection to the distributor vacuum advance on a 1985 500 SEL German version engine. When the car was imported and converted to US specs., they added a charcaol canister and connected it to the same vacuum line as the distributor advance, and to the fuel tank. As a result, I do not have any vacuum to the advance as long as it is also connected to the canister. The spark advance under this no vacuum condition is 8 deg., and if I disconnect the canister it goes to 16 deg (both at idle, which I believe is the correct value for this engine. I would like to connect the distributor correctly, but have no information as to how it originally was connected. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
