85 300D 250K miles Criteria for collapsed engine mounts?

Is my engine loud because of collapsed engine mounts? What are the exact criteria for collapsed engine mounts? The engine certainly seems to be shaking in the engine compartment but that may be a diesel thing.
I really maintain the car well. I just replaced my accordion turbocharger exhaut pipe becuase there was a crack, but the engine still sounds noisey. Also I am missing the hood silencer pad ever since the car was repainted

Sounds like your mounts are the problem. The first clue that you get is when the sump pan touches the sump guard plate during acelleration. There's not much clearance there anyway. I fitted new mounts a few years back and the good news is that it is a very staightforeward job. Two capscrews on top and one underneath.
