190 ignition

Hello, I have a 1988 190 2.3 and am trying to take the ignition barrel apart but I can't seem to get the black metal cover off. Could somebody please help me and tell me how to remove the cover? Thanks in advance

Do a search on tumbler. It does unscrew when you hit the right spot with the paper clip.

sorry but 190's do not unscrew. turn ignition tumbler to the #2 line possition on the black cover. install 2 paperclips in both holes & you should be able to pull out the tumbler when pulling on the key.

old coat hanger

1. A modified coat hanger works well too, sand the ends to about 20 degrees outwards it’s also the same diameter as the Mercedes tool advised to be use.
2. I’ve made one and it works great, if you are in the Oxford area I’ll let you barrow mine.

Thanks for the clarification WRM - I was under the impression that they all come out the same way.
