The bulb socket in the headlight switch was not used on the U.S. version car. It is used to indicate the rear fog lamp operation. The rear fog lamp is a single bright lamp only on the driver's side. It wasn't used on the U.S. car until recently. You don't have a problem!

I'm a nit-picky kinda guy and I'd like to get the rear fogs functional in my 81 126. Does anybody know where I can order a Euro-version rear inside tail-light assembly and appropriate bulbs. Once I get them do I just plug them in or are there more complications.
