ignition system faulty

Hello. Brand new owner of first mercedes Benz, a 1994 E320 4dr sedan with 166000 which I gave 2500 for. Gotta a great price on it, always dreamed of having one and finally one falls into my lap. Now I'm wondering if that "great deal" had a reason behind it. After buying I did research. Wiring harness seems to be the biggest short comings of these 93-95 E320's.

I am having hard starting and rough idling and surging problems. Used onboard diagnostic and got 7 flashes, indicating "ignition system faulty". All coils and plug wires are original. Seems like a good place to start. Runs great on the open hiway but the hard starting and rough idle and surging in neutral frightens me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
