88 300E No start.. Bad fuel pump GROUND?

I drove the car home yesterday, and everything was normal.

This morning, no start, no fuel pump noise..

After much fussing about I have determined that the ground circuit is 'open' and not grounding the fuel pumps.. Have a temporary ground wired and the car runs again.

My question is: does anyone know where the fuel pump ground is attached to the car body? OR is it easier just to ground the fuel pump to some sheetmetal where the fuel pump harness meets the body harness?

Anyone ever heard of a ground going bad with the fuel pumps?

I'm fairly new to electrical repairs, so any suggestions are welcome, and appreciated.
