Unhappy Air Conditioner conversion to 134a

Hi, I own a 1991 560sel with about 110k miles. My a/c no longer gets cold, although it does become cool. I understand this vehicle uses R12 freon. Is it possible to convert my system to the new more commonly used 134a? And if so will it perform as before? Does the conversion entail just the removal of the old R12 freon from the system? Second, I know the low pressure vaulve is located towards the front of the vehicle on the left (driver's side). Where is the High pressure valve located?
