tell me what's wrong with my car?

I've got a 1989 mb 420 sel. It is burning oil. Oil gets on the spark plugs and the engine shakes. How can I tell what's wrong with it and how can it be fixed? Thanks, Jane

Jane,
Your problem is most likley valve guides that are worn and leaking oil. Correct replacement cost would be about $2600.00 That would get your cylander heads rebuilt and a new timing chain. However I have had valve guide seals replaced on a 420SEL with successful results before. Either way i would have a qualified MB technician look at your engine first.
Good Luck!
Adam

Wink what was wrong with my car

I posted my question on this site and then I looked at what other people had said. I decided that it needed new n\valve stem seals becuase the car was burning oil. I then found a post which said that it took $50 of parts and 2 1/2 hours labor insted of a $400-2000 job, it cost me $280. I feel like a genius and that these repair shops are trying to rip consumers off. I lost all confidence in the alldata website. My 420sel is no longer burning oil!
