M113 engine module

Am I correct in assuming that the engine module on a M113, from a 03 CLK500 would require SCN coding, or not? I have this car that just arrived and it powers up but will not crank, and SDS will not read the engine module at all. I did some initial testing and I believe the module itself is getting power assuming I am checking the correct pins. Anyway, just wondered if I can swap it, or if I would have to jack with getting a used one virginized at all that.
