Reccomendation needed. Thanks

I am in need of a new/ used MB. I have a 1973 450SL in restoration mode. I need a reliable MB. I’ve had many old MB. What is the reccomendation from a master mechanic that works on MB, preferably a SUV type car being that we are retired and a SL is not very practical. Hard to crawl out off. Old people like us. Thanks.

Simple, basic SUV that is at height that makes it easy for me to get in and out of. Ours just turned over 270k miles and is still a solid, quiet ride. I did have to update timing components at around 250k.

Any cooling system issues in that high mileage. What timing issues did you have, timing chain? Guides? Thanks

Chain rattle on cold start. Actuators go bad. Replaced all four cam actuators, all chains and guide assemblies tensioners and both of drivers side cams. I suspect if i had adressed sooner I would not have had to replace cams. Also replaced some of the roller rockers. Oil changes were performed every 7500 miles with full synthetic. Parts came to around $3k. Cams were dealer only at $1k each.

Ive already replaced the radiator and all rotating items on front of engine including ac compressor.

Stick with rear wheel drive if you dont need 4matic. Less stuff to maintain on RWD.

I have owned over 30 Mercedes vehicles over the last 30 years (mostly W123 diesel & gas). My daily driver is a 2012 ML350 (gas) that was built in Birmingham, Alabama. 4 matic. Best Mercedes I have ever owned. 80,000 + miles, full synthetic every 5,000 miles. Transmission service at 30,000 miles. The Signal Acquisition Module (SAM) is mounted behind the rear taillight. When it gets wet the gas gauge stops working. Once it dries out, no problems.
