1991 560SEL brake job; the saga continues....

OK, after tearing through my parts supply, I finally figured out that I have already put new brake rotors on the 1991 Mercedes 560SEL. I figured it out because I have the OLD rotors lying under the work bench in the garage, go figure, right?

So....there is some surface rust that has developed on the new brake rotors that are on the car. I am thinking of using the Kent method using an abrasive pad attachment for an electric drill. Question; is there anything I can put on the brake rotors to help stop rust?

If a car sits rotors will rust. I usually ignore surface rust on my rotors because as soon as you use the breaks a few times the pads clean it off. As long as it is just surface rust it is not an issue. Rust becomes an issue if it starts pitting. I certainly would not use a electric drill with sand paper on it because there is no way you will sand evenly. You will probably heat the rotor doing this and warp it. This sounds like a bad idea to me but I do not know what you mean by the kent method. So, take my advice with a grain of salt.

q:

You have started second and third threads on this subject; is it your intention to ignore all of the information in the first thread? This one:

when i clean rotors, i want them to rust on site, asap. that means they are clean of any grease and such that would hinder braking.

your concern about rust might cost you a set of pads, should you drive the car. and i encourage you to drive it and not worry about it. really, much ado about nothing.
