I'm going to replace all of the dash lights....

Can someone walk me through this?

I have the Haynes manual but it is for an old 190D

Much of the trim is different between that car and mine...

Can someone give me some help/hints/tips?

Thank you.

Mike.

Sorry I can't help with the dash lights, but I've got another question for you.

I have the same amp (Kicker IX404) as you, how do you find yours powering 2 Phoenix Gold subs? How are they connected?

I have 1 Alpine Type-R 10" bridged across the 2 rear channels in the trunk, and even this doesn't get enough power to create particularly noticeable bass when cruising at speed. With the windows open you'd never know it is there. It sounds alright when stopped with the engine off though.
At the point I do get distortion, it's the amplifier's lack of power that is causing it not the sub (this is the case if distortion sounds a bit like gravel-in-a-pan).

How is your bass and how are your subs mounted?

thanks & later

I enjoy the way my system is set up.

I have 2 of the channels power each of the rear 5 1/4" speakers.

The remaining 2 channels have been "bridged" mono to power the 2 10" DVC subs...

I have the amp's gain turned to about half or so.

My head unit also has a sub control so I don't have the bass up too high since, it can give me a headache after only 10 minutes or so.

I have drilled holes throughout the first aid kit door and cut a large hole out of the plastic tub that holds the contents of the kit. I kept the plastic tub in so it would keep the door lid down.

I have also put rubber grommets around all 4 of the rear licence plate screws underneath the licence plate.

I did the same for the washers with the 6 screws holding on the back bumper. Also watch for the plastic covering the back of the trunk it can cause rattling.

I haven't had rattling up to now but, remember I don't have my gain up very much (60%)....

Good luck with you sound man!

By the way, my subs are in a sealed box.

I enjoy the crisp bass and the sound characteristics.

The box (which contains the amp mounded on the side) is mounted on a large sheet of plywood...lays ontop of spare tire cover and carpet/subs face out towards trunk lid.

I have made the dimensions match those of the plastic covering over the spare tire (under the carpet)

I used 1" wood screws to do this and have been very pleased to date.

Any questions you have please let me know brother.

Do you have both subs wired in parallel, bridged across the 2 channels?

If so, I think that will give you 2ohm mono. The instruction manual only quotes power for 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm mono, so I thought the amp could only accept a single 4 ohm speaker when bridged. But hey, if it's working okay for you, I'll look into doing the same!

My sub is currently in a quite small (0.75 cu ft) sealed box, which could explain my lack of bass.
