Center Link, DIY??
On an 87' 300E can you replace the center link on the steering? Mine just wen't out, i can get the part for $23, but my mechanic wants to charge me $211 parts/labor. So can I do it? and Where is it??

The center link OR drag link takes about 0.6hr to replace & possibly a special tool will be needed to loosen the tapered ends from the idler arm & pittman arm.
You also should have the front end alignment checked! The part number should be 124-460-08-05 & list is $81. Add $40 for labor & alignment at $80-100 and you get $200.-225. Seems that you tech is close to this figure. BUY only an OE Mercedes part OR one from Lemfoerder(oe mfr). All others are CHEAP knock offs!

He wasn't including a front end alignment which was an additional 60. Oh and the reason im in this mess to begin with is i went to get my alignment checked but they said they couldn't do it because my center link was broken. So, i just looked at the involment and it looks pretty easy, so im gonna buy the part, put it in, then get my alignment checked. Sound Good?? Thanks again |
