I have an 88 300TE. The driver side rear wheel bearing was recently replaced by the dealer. Since the replacement, I have had vibration, both in the steering wheel and under the seat at 65mph+ speeds. the vibration is not the result of wheel characteristics (balance etc) since these have been rigourously checked. Drivetrain appears to be fine following inspection by another dealer. The same dealer suspects that wheel alignment may be the cause of the vibrations.

My questions :

1) Are alignments normally performed following the replacement of a wheel bearing ?

2) Can misalignment explain the type of vibration I have described ?

Any thoughts / experiences would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

1. No
2. Yes
I would have the alignment checked. Then look at the tires to be sure one is not cut on the inside edge.
