560 SEL transmission shifter

After months of battling with my 560 dying on me or not starting I have finally figured out the cause. The shift lever mechanism has loosened up to where the car will not start in park anymore.
In the last week the lever has become sloppy and when moving
it you can hear a clinking

My question is : Is anyone familiar with the shift lever mechainsim. Can I tighten it up and where do i get to it at ?

thanks

Scott Lumry

A search using "shift linkage bushing" should give you what you need.

Simple DIY. Look under the car in the area of the shift lever and you will see a plastic bushing .It is easy to replace.Sounds like it is worn out.
