What is the procedure for replacing the shift knob on an 89 190E. ie. How do I remove the wood panel below the shifter?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

On a 190, I believe that after you clean up all the sticky stuff that can accumulate there, you remove the trim ring then pull up. After that you will have to remove the top of the black box to remove the pin or the bolt/nut that holds it down.
