Where to buy vacume Lines???

I had an EGR valve error code and the tech told me it may be the switch over valve. On a post here I was told to check the vacume lines and sure enough the lines were bad. However it looks like someone has actually cracked the lines and tried to repair them with a larger hose over them. No matter, they are brittle, where can I get the two vacume lines that go from the switch over valve up the engine to the EGR valve on the M104 engine? I should be able to just pull out the old ones and put in new ones right?

Thanks!

Thumbs up vacuum lines

I am not familiar with the M104 engine, but I did own a '82 300 Turbo diesel and my current '84 380 SL.

I purchase my lines, rubber and plastic, in meter lengths from my local MB dealer. Keep in mind these items are metric diameter sized. As well, stuff you can buy at the Zone (not metric sized) may work or may not. You may want to remove the hose line and take with you. Also, you may need to cut a bit off the end to get the true dia. of hose.

Remember, some German engineer was paid to figure out the correct dia. of the hose line, plastic or rubber, to insure the proper functioning of the operating part.

Good Luck!

I bought some rubber fuel lines from local hardware store and used them as vacuum lines on my 400E, they stand the 110C heat generated by that V8 and work well.

If the vacuum hoses don't fix your problem, you probably have a plugged EGR tube from the EGR valve to the intake manifold. This tube plugs up with carbon over time and causes the EGR flow to be reduced to the point where it is essentially inoperative. You will want to replace the EGR tube (you will need to R&R the intake manifold). The tube can be cleaned out with a speedometer cable on a drill but this seems to have limited success. As you can tell, this is a common problem.

those plastic lines do get brittle. i just snapped one while working on the tensioner shock in my car. they're not a snug fit in the rubber hoses either...
