I believe that the center wood will pull up without much force, then the coin tray can be lifted up. ( don't quote me on this I haven't done many!)

There is no coin tray in ash tray of new
E class. there is a storage box directly under radio with a door. then the ash tray and lighter under that, also with a door. I don't want to yank or pull on the wood unless I know the correct way to do it. Perhaps there is a after Mkt. radio installer out there who has done this and will share the info..

IF you are just trying to get at the wires you need a set of radio keys to remove the radio. Look at the bottom of the radio faceplate and there will be two small slots for the keys to go into. Then you just pull out.

There is an excellent series in the Mercedes list mercedes.pair.com/archives for the 300E.
I must admit I tried to follow the same procedures but it was so stuck I desisted.Better pay someone 30-60 C$ to do it in Canada than broken/cracked wood trim.
