Idle problem when headlights on
My 16v has developed a idle problem when there is some kind of power consumption. It idles perfectly until I turn on the head lights. When I turn on the head lights it almost stalls and then begins to idle at very low rpms (about 500-550) then when I turn the headlights off it begins to idle normaly. It behaves the same way when I turn the blower to max. Is this somekind of electrical problem ? Where should I look for it and how can it be fixed ???

How old is your battery?
Your battery is probably going bad. Also check the brushes in the alternator.

Is it easy to replace the alternator brushes on the 16v ? Are they accessible ??

If it is a Bosch alternator...yes!
The brushes are attached to the voltage regulator, just remove a couple of screws in the back of the alternator. The whole unit will come out. Installation is in reverse order.
Don't forget to check your battery!
