500 is 420

decided to do timing chain on 86 euro 500SE myself "with a little help from my friends".Have done front end and brake work no parts problems seems euro front end same as other 126's now the funny part (or not so funny ) checked engine no (Seller told me it was a replacement engine) and its not a 117 as I thought #no. is 116 965 12 030019 witch should make it a 420 ,is there any way to tell the year of manufacture of engine from that number......
