Question How to remove/replace door rearview mirror

I have a damaged left side door rearview mirror. Carpark damage to the front right side frame of the plastic shell. The broken piece is a vertical piece which sits flush to the black rubber insulation which cushions any knocks. This part actually covers some of the control mechanism and is unsightly if not covered. I have covered this space with black plastic(welded on) and then found the missing piece in the area later. The broken off piece does not fit exactly due to missing bits and distortion. I can buy a replacement complete set for A$690 !!! and add on the labour charges. However they also have a blank shell which I haven't seen for 25% of this price. Have to have it colour matched. How do I take off the old shell !!!

I would suggest telling the Forum what model and year car you have.

Question How to remove Rearview door mirror

Sorry, my car is a 1994 C180 Euro model and it is the same as any of the other 1994 to 1997 C class Benzs as far as the door RV mirrors are concerned. The 1998 to 2000 C class had a slightly altered RV mirror shell from the front. It comes in 1 piece as opposed to the E class RV mirror which comes in 2 or 3 parts. If moved left or right on the centre spring hinge you can see 2 screws on either side which may be the ones that will dismantle the shell??? Your assistance will be most appreciated.

If you push the whole mirror forwar and look inside you should see a silver colored u-shaped piece. If you take a flat screw driver and twist between the center portion of the silver piece it moves and disengages from the cover allowing the cover to be moved off of the mirror assembly. Hope this helps, its a little hard to describe.
