Question Splash pan

I have a 1991 420 SEL and have a question.

When I got the car last year it did not have a splash pan installed under the engine compartment. Inquiring with the dealer, I was told that a splash pan is not specified for the 420 SEL. However, I notice that there seem to be attach holes, etc. in key places underneath that would indicate one might fit. Should I leave well enough alone??????? (My Volvos all had them, why not my MB??)
