Question problem starting relating to brakes? fumes out exhaust?

i've had some problems starting my 86 420SEL (130Kmi.)

if i don't pump the brakes before starting the car so that the brake pedal won't give, it doesn't seem to want to start. the starter whirs away, but nothing else. it won't even try to turn over.

brakes work perfectly otherwise (knock on wood)

car runs fine otherwise (knock again)

could this be a problem with the factory alarm? By the way, how do I disable that thing.

Also, i know a car is supposed to emit some fumes out the exhaust, but mine seems to do more than most cars. i have no idea if for a mercedes of this year and miles it is normal.
