Diff. Between '80 300D/ '83 300D Heads
OK all you Diesel Heads. I need some specifics as to the difference between a '80 300D non-turbo head and a '83 300D Turbo head.
I know the turbo lower end of the engine is different from the non-turbo. My concern is the top-end.. the head, intake/exhaust valves, valve guides, combustion chamber size, injectors, manifolds, etc.. I need this info for a project that I may do. I have a very good non-turbo head that I'm thinking of putting on a turbo engine with a BAD head. Thank you all in advance.. Jay

The '80 will have larger glow plug ports for the loop type glow plugs. At the very least you will have to use bushings for the glow plugs to convert to parallel type for which the late car is wired, and will also probably have to change the prechambers to the rounded nose rather than the scalloped type.
Good luck, |

The '80 head has the pencil type, parrallel glow plugs in it from factory. I guess it is a late '80 or something.
I thinking the only differences are in: -injectors.. turbo has bigger injectors -prechambers.. are obviously different because of the injectors -valves Both heads are OM617. I just wanted to know if I was missing anything else. Thanx..
