95 C280 - 8 Year/80,000 mile emissions warranty
I recently had to replace the air mass meter(sensor) and coolant temperature switch on my 1995 C280 with 69,000 miles. These parts were determined to require replacement after the check engine light came on. Since these parts directly effect the engine emissions, I felt that they should be covered by the 8 year/80,000 mile emissions warranty. The Mercedes dealer, however, indicated that these parts are not covered by the emissions warranty and would need to be replaced at my expense ($637. 53). I still feel that these parts directly effect vehicle emissions and therefore should be covered. Who's correct?

Hi Bob,
I had the exact same issue and warranty question on my C230. The helpful members of this forum directed me to my "Owner's Service and Warranty Information" booklet that came with the Owner's Manual. The table on page twenty-nine listed all parts covered by the regular and extended warranty. I was disappointed.

In 1996 the emission warranty was extended from 5/50,000 to 8/80,000 & the number of covered parts was reduced by at least 50%. The "CAR" lobbies won out over the "GREEN" lobbies!!
In most cases the 8/80k covers only the computer & catalyst. See your "limited warranty" book for exact coverage on your car.

Thanks for the answer to this issue along with the history lesson on the MB emission warranty. I always find it interesting to learn the background behind these issues!
