Question about brake wear indicator light.

My 1988 300E needed new brakes and the replace brake light on the dash never came on. I have the amber light on the dash and it lights up when you turn the key to on, but goes out when you start it. Shouldn't the light stay on. The wires on both sensors are broken.

The light will only come on when the sensors go to ground and complete the circuit (meaning they make contact with the rotors). If the wires are broken, the circuit will never be complete and you will never see a light.
