P0100 Mass Air Flow on SLK

98 SLK with 60K miles has developed intermittent slight loss of power and intermittent rough idle. Sometimes its difficult start. Check engine light is on, only code set is P0100 (Mass Air Flow Fault). What do you think?

Good Merc shop is a bit inconvenient, so I thought I'd take a crack if this is a common item. Otherwise off to the shop. Last I checked, Mass Air Flow sensors are big $$$ and wouldn't want to replace it on a whim.

We replace about 2 a week. They are a big Mercedes problem.
