I used to own an auto electronics biz, and I fired any tech that jump started any late model car. All those durned computers are just too sensitive to extremes in voltage. Next time you discharge the battery to the point of non-starting the car, charge the battery instead of jump starting.

That said, your CE light can come on if low voltage is detected repeatedly. On my Dad's 98 C230, an aging battery set off his CE light. A recharge and a light reset, and problem solved. You'll have to have the codes read and the light reset to get 'er back to normal.

AutoZone will read the code and reset the check engine light (CEL) for free, but you have to tell them the magic words "OBD two" because for some reason they always think that they cannot read MB codes. Every time I have gone there they end up reading out just fine. Last time the guy thought that the code wouldn't reset but when he disconnected the scan tool it had reset the CEL.

Jump starting a car will not damage your car's electronic system. Your check engine light may come on signalling that you have a low voltage present due to a dead battery. That is why you have the OVP- Over voltage protection relay.
