Hydraulic fluid low

I was checking my fluid levels today and found that my level control/4matic hydraulic fluid is low (below the MIN. mark on the dipstick). I purchased my car 3 months ago, a 1990 300TE 4matic wagon with 102,000 mi...., so I'm new to Mercedes & this forum (which is great) The fluid specified is a specific Mercedes item. I'm going to order some online but I'm wondering if I could use some other hydraulic fluid until it gets here. Should I even drive the car? Thanks in advance!

Don't even think of using a different fluid. Make sure you order the correct fluid from MB - there are several different types.

The 'correct' answer is, no you shouldn't drive it. However, if you don't carry a heavy load and don't do anything that might make demands on the 4WD system and if it's not actually dropping any more, it'll probably be OK for a few days.

You did check it unladen? - self levelling system causes fluid level to drop temporarily when it compensates for a heavy load.
