red and green light flash when trying to start car
 

Hello all, I think I have a start lock out problem. stopped got gas attempted to start car and light on the rear view mirror starting flashing. tried to reset per manual and no go. tried the "flat key" and did not help. Tried to unhook battery, thinking it would reset lock out but no good. what causes the red and green lights to flash on and off Many thanks , I have a 1996 SL 320

You have activated the anti-theft system. Mine did that once I think I had accidentally locked it from inside the car using the infrared key. When you try to start it the car thinks it's being stolen. You'll need to unlock it with the IR key THEN start it.

I am having the EXACT same problem with my 96 c220. I tried everything, including locking and unlocking from inside and outside the care with both the remote and the regular key...no luck. I had to have the darn thing towed to the dealership which charged me $300 to reset the remotes and now it's still not working. Your guess is as good as mine.
