300 Turbo injection pump, '84 v.'85

Hey-hey!!!,
I just got a 1985 300 TD wagon with a siezed motor and a replacement. The replacement is a late '84 with the suspension pump but several other differences. Most critical of these is the injection pump. The '85 has a box on the engine side, whilst the '84 has only a blank boss for the box mount. The box has a three wires and a connector in the upper center of the firewall. What is this box, what does it do, and most importantly, can I drive without it? I'm not sure of the condition of the siezed '85 motor's pump so I'd like to avoid changing it over and re-timing it.
thanks for the help,
Douglas Piccard
