My diaphram has apparently ruptured and gasoline is filling the vacuum line. Could this also contribute to poor fuel mileage? Is there enough suction in that line to pull it into the engine, or is it going into the crankcase?

would you be willing to tell the uninnitiated a little more about your project? I am very interested. specifically I want to know why you investigated that part in the first place. and then how you knew it was leaking. I have a feeling that this part may be going on my car but don't know how to check it.

Here's what it looks lilike. There is a white plastic vacuum line that connects it to the rubber hose between the valve cover and the air cleaner. My line was half full of gas. Also when you remove the gas line in front, that's the return line, there shouldn't be any gas leaking out of the regulator. Car not running when you try this!!

That part caused me a race car motor! filled the crankcase with gas.
Yes the rubber/plastic line is only a vent. Shouldn't have much effect on fuel mileage unless it fills up the oil pan!

Sorry to hear about the engine it killed. Would it be better to vent it to atmosphere? That is as long as it's working properly and not pointed at a fire hazard!!
