gas milage and distributor/450 sl (1973)

My gas mileage is about 5 miles per gallon. I 've had the plugs,wires,cap replaced. The car runs quite smoothly but the gas mileage is poor. Can the distributor work but be working at a subpar state and cause the poor gas mileage. Do you have any suggestions
