We now have an additives page in PartsShop featuring Red Line and Lubro Moly products. To see it just click on PartsShop and look for the banner near the top of the page.

Several people have been ordering these products from us...we thought we would make the whole process easier.

Somewhere I think I saw where Lubro Moly has a radiator flush and I wonder whether this is an acceptable substiture for the Mercedes stuff

Hmm....This Liqui Molly Diesel purge stuff, can you tell me more about it ?

Especially on the following claims -
"Eliminates engine knocking, "nailing" and vibration..... Reduces smoking and soot emission....... Observe the application instructions printed on the container."

What's "nailing" ?
On smoking and soot emission, works better then Redline ?
Is this dumped in the fuel tank ?

I tried the stuff 2 months ago. There didn't seem to be any noticeable difference, before/after. Maybe my injectors were already clean. For ~$10 a bottle you can't really go wrong. I think your supposed to use it once a year.

You don't put in into the tank. Here's what I did.

Buy 5/16 " fuel line hose (1 feet) and some golf tees.
Prepare for a slight diesel spill.

Disconnect the hose that feeds into pre-filter. Prepare to stick a clean golf tee into it (the hose) as soon as possible. Disconnect the main fuel return line ( the big one leaving the main fuel filter) at the firewall, plug the open end with a golf tee. Or you could detach the line at the main filter and add a foot of hose that you bought. Attach the 5/16 " (the accessory one you bought) hose into the prefilter, it pops on easily and stays there. Plug the open end of the hose you just attached. You should now have 3 hoses hanging around, the main fuel entry plugged at opposing ends and the main fuel exit, also plugged. Pour the diesel purge into a jar. Place the jar somewhere where the diesel rattle won't spill it. Unplug your two hoses and place them into the jar, way into the bottom. Pump the hand pump (white handle beside pre-filter, twist and then pump) until you see the red diesel purge in the clear pre-filter and you feel distinct pressure. Double check to make sure your jar is in a good tight spot. Start the engine and run varying rpm until you run out of diesel purge. Should take around 20 min. Reverse procedure
when done.

If you try it please post any results if any.

UHHHH or you can buy a new main filter and fill it with the stuff install it and crank the car. Just a little easier.

When I first encountered Diesel Purge, I used it on my '83 300CD-T and received good results. Specifically, the engine ran quieter (less knocking) and I noticed a small improvement in acceleration. This was done at a point where the engine had about 200,000 mi. on it.

As for application procedure, I have a diagram that came with the product that I have referenced and which involves a piece of clear tubing and a jar. About 20 minutes is what it takes me with a helper in the car controlling the ignition. I generally use the product on each M-B once per year.

Of course, your results may vary.

Incdientally, I also add a small amount of Red Line's Diesel Fuel Catalyst in to the tank at each fill-up which seems to successfully eliminate smoking (I think "the patch" placed by the fuel tank door would detract from the car's aesthetics... :> )

Good luck-

Terry
