Dash lights in and around...

...headlight switch?

Sorry for being dense, but I can't recall if the headlight switch and the icons around it on the dash are supposed to be lit when the lights are on.

If so, can someone please tell me how to replace the bulb?

Thanks!

miktvk,

I assume your working on the MB in your signature. Not quite sure but if its like my W124 Just tug on the headlight switch it will pop off revealing a largebolt that shouldn't be overly tight. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the bolt. Once that is removed it should come free if memory serves me correctly. The bulb in question should then be visible which is a #74 bulb. Only few parts houses stock these bulbs. You may need to pick one up at the local MB dealership if you have one, should set you back about $2.50. Let me know how it turns out!

That takes care of the backlit portions of the headlight knob. Many don't know that there is a bulb in the center of the headlight switch (orange) that lights up when you pull the knob two clicks (to engage the rear fog taillight). The bulb should be visible in the shaft when you remove the knob.

Thanks, G-Benz,
I notice in your sig you have a 73 Super Beetle. That makes me sad.

Two years ago I sold a MINT 65 Beetle, Awesome Sea Blue color, which I had owned for only two years. A real crowd-pleaser. Now I'm just kicking myself for selling! I bought it cheap-no rust and a perfect re-painted body, and sold it at a loss, having put about $3k into new motor, brakes, interior and suspension, all work I did myself.

Selling seemed like a logical thing to do at the time, but now I spend an unhealthy amount of time on ebaymotors, oldbug.com, and thesamba.com looking for a replacement, which of course I cannot really afford at this time. Oh well, maybe one day.
