190e 2.6 auto trans/LSD
Is there a performance chip for auto 91 that will start the car in 1st not 2nd?
Was LSD a option? If so how much do used ones sell for? Do I need to use super (91) gas? This is my 1st MB so please be gentle. Thanks Dave |

Hi. I have a 2.6 too. The 190E's transmission is hydraulic so there is no chip to reprogram. Some changes to the valve body are required for it to start in first gear. You can, however, do this: From a full stop with your foot on the brake move the selector level to '2' then back to 'D' again. Stomp on the gas. Car moves smartly in first then slams into second quite nicely.
Yes, you need to use premium unleaded gas (posted 91 octane at the pump). This is RON 96 / MON 86 gas, commonly called super in the USA. |

The 1992 190E 2.6 starts in first gear by default. You might want to research what was done on the 1992 that is different from yours, then you could just purchase the part. The trans are the same, so its something else.
No LSD available for the 190E 2.6, although you might be able to retrofit a LSD from a 190 16 valve. |

1st gear start
You may want to experiment with 1st gear starts using the "shift down to 2nd at a stop" method before converting your transmission.
When I first got my 260e I wanted to convert it but after trying 1st gear I changed my mind. 1st seems to be a very low gear considering the rear axle ratio, and the car lurches and shifts hard into second. In everyday traffic this could get really irritating. I understand now why the cars is set up to start in second gear. |

I don't have that problem, most likely its your axel ratio, all 190E's have 3:27, so Dave could expect the same performance from his 190 as I have from mine.

Bergwerks sells an electronic 1st gear start module for the 500e which may not take too much to modify for your car. Check with Carl at
