Starter Inhibitor?
I removed and replaced the transmission shift linkage (bushing replacement), including the transmission shift lever, and now that all is reassembled, car starts in all shift settings and there are no backup lights. The Starter Inhibitor/Backup Light Switch described in the Haynes Manual does not exist, as described, on this 85 TD wagon. Help...

The switch is behind the shift lever on the trans. Sounds like you did not get it engaged into the lever and the switch is staying in park.

How does the Shift Lever engage the switch? I can find little info. on the switch in the archives. If anyone can point me to some good posts I'd appreciate it. The Haynes Manual is void of meaningful info. on the subject.
