amber fog lights

Does anyone know if a 300se amber fog lams can be converted to the regular white driving lights? Is the lens what makes it amber or does the car use amber colored bulbs? I would like to convert to the white light, but not destroy the light assembly in case I decide to ever put the amber back in.

scottfish,

Not sure about your 300SE but you might be able to paint the reflector chrome for the "white" look. I painted my fog lights chrome and they look much better. A can of spray paint is way cheaper than buying an aftermarket assembly. If you want to go back to amber you could install an amber bulb.

Amber fog lamps

Do they make chrome colored paint? I have a 66 mustang convertible that could use some chrome paint to cover a few screw heads. Would you have to go to a paint shop or could you find it elsewhere?

The difference between foglights and driving lights is more in the beam pattern than the color of light. Even if you get the light to shine white rather than yellow you won't have driving lights.

I'm pretty sure the bulbs are white/clear so something other than the bulb is yellow.

amber...

If my 300E and your 300SE's lights are set up the same way, there's a yellow and chrome glass jar that fits over the bulb itself within the foglight housing. You have to take off the plastic cover from the light housing ( you may have to remove the whole light assembly) and pull out the yellow/chrome glass jar exposing the naked bulb. -- Mike

Or jam a screwdriver in there and break it off. Hopefully the pieces are small enough to extract through the bulb hole.

scottfish,

I bought my chrome paint from Home Depot. Or you could ask any tagger in your area where he gets his paint from.
