1994 E320 oil filter questions

This is my first DIY oil change on a recently acquired '94 E320.

Is the oil filter at the right rear of the engine under a plastic cap? The arrow on the cap points clockwise. Do I turn the cap clockwise to remove it? I attempted to turn it and got it to move 1/2" clockwise and it stopped.

Positions on a car are usually assigned by the plan that you are sitting in the drivers seat. The driver sits on the LEFT side of the car on a US version car for example. The oil filter on your car is on the drivers side (LEFT side) of the engine.
To remove the filter, it's like a screw, righty tighty. lefty loosy. You need to turn it LEFT (counter clockwise) to loosen the car and remove the filter.
