1988 300E shift console illumination ??

Can anyone tell me where the light bulb is supposed to be on the automatic shifter so I know what gear I am in when driving at night? I'm sure there is one but again the wiring is hacked up on my U-boat and I don't know where to fix it.

Thanks!

Duhh, I guess I should have done a search before asking for bread. But looking to the left of my shifter with the wood trim removed, all I see are two cut off wires where I suppose the light used to be. Does anyone by chance have a pic of what the setup is supposed to look like underneath the wood?

Thanks.

I don't have a picture, but the bulb plugs (actually, slides) into the shifter housing from underneath the front end. See if you can feel around underneath that end of the housing for other wires or the bulb (if it's still there).

Thanks Anthony! It was right where you said it was and it was intact but not working. The bulb looks all fogged up and is perhaps gone bad.

Does anybody know the amps/watts on this teenie little bulb? Otherwise I might try to swag it with something from Autozone.

Thanks!

When you say the bulb is fogged, is it fogged white? If so that is actually a frosted bulb, usually installed in the ashtray socket. The clear bulbs go everywhere else. The clear ones by Sylvania/Osram can be found at your local Pep Boys or other parts houses, I think they are only in one wattage.

I did also replace this blub a while ago.

Does anybody of you have a bluish rubber piece fitted on the blub? I had one and it will make the letter glow flourocent blue when fitted.

I am just curious to see if this is oem or not? Also same goes for vents knob in dash. Arrow will glow flourocent blue.
