column noise in 94 500
I am new to the benz forum so please bare with me.
Anyone had any problems with Mercedes s500 1994. I am having a noise in the upper portion of the steering column. I took column apart and couldn't find anything. It noise is a creaking sound when turing the wheel either to the right or left. Your help would be greatly appreciated thanks Jason

Sounds like the slip rings for the horn and air bag are squeeking.
Pre-air bag, the fix was to slightly lube the rings, post-air bag the fix is to just ignore the sound. According to the manuals DO NOT lube the slip rings. Aletrnate repair would be to replace the slips rings. Parts are about $75.00, at least for a 126, not sure about newer models.
